Sale is over, ~880 females from 6 years old down to 3 months old sold Friday and Saturday. Largest purchaser was about ~200 head going to Texas, second largest was ~180 going to Iowa. States I have written papers to so far include Alabama, California, New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Iowa, Wisconsin, South Carolina and Georgia. Lots of single animal purchases, either someone looking for that special one or 4H calf etc. More to write today..........
Jersey Marketing handled the sale and did a great job. Wow, it's a lot of work getting ready for one of these. I guess that's another reason why we don't do these too often (this is the 4th sale we have had since 1999 and the biggest so far). Never could have done it without all the Jersey crew. I know they weren't sure whether they worked for me or JMS before it was over, but they all pitched in when called upon and I really appreciate it. I hope they feel like I helped them when they needed it, 'cause I tried.
There's still enough cows and heifers here to operate the larger of our two dairies and now we shift into culling, drying and fitting the keepers into the groups, getting them settled in and above all, getting corn in the ground to feed them next year!
